Hi everyone.
We are going to post some info about our the survey ressults in Asturias:
Characteristics of this group of people:
- Respondents have been mostly own family, predominantly parents.
- The predominant age range of respondents is between 55 and 65 years (55%).
- Most of the people surveyed live in one of the 3 major cities of Asturias: Oviedo, Gijón and Avilés, which alone bring together approximately 50% of the population of Asturias.
- As far as income is concerned, it is important to note that in the predominant age range, there are a good percentage of people still in the workforce. There is also a general perception of having an income level within the average; taking into account that Asturias has traditionally been an industrial region, the incomes of a pensioner in Asturias can be reasonably high compared to regions that have traditionally relied on industries such as agriculture, which often receive lower pensions at the end of working life.
- The percentage of people living alone is small. We must take into consideration that the average age of the sample is low, so that the probability of widowhood is less; on the other hand, late youth emancipation and the traditional orientation of the Asturian society to care for the elderly at home contribute to this result.
Main differences of the values obtained from the values of other countries:
- Question 2 "How often do you cook meals?" The most common response was "Preparing meals with family members". The reasons for the differences with countries like Poland, France and Hungary may be a low average age of the respondent, which usually coexist with one child still, and for older people, the tendency of relatives to take care of elderly in their own homes.
- In question 3 "Different kinds of Frequency regarding meals". There is a trend that marks a clear preference for fresh products compared to those already preprocessed. Much of the surveyed population is native to the rural environment, in stages prior to industrial growth in the region. In this environment the use of fresh food and feed themselves dominates the use of the preprocessed ones.
- In Question 9 "What is your attitude to food" there is an important difference in the response "I do not care what I eat" due to a translation error. It was translated as “I eat any kind of food." Even with this failure, the answer is very significant because it indicates that most people do not feel animosity toward specific types of food.
- On the sub-question b of the question 9, "I eat what my nutritionist recommended", most people answered "Definitely not" as a result of that in Asturias the nutritionist is not very common figure.
- In the question 9 g "I eat what is cheap" there is few people responding in the affirmative, due largely to the purchasing power of staff surveyed.
- In question 16 "What is your approach to new products?", the responses show that people is quite reluctant to new products, it is not easy to establish a possible cause for this, although the predominantly rural origin of the population in Asturias in those age ranges can be the reason of these people giving a high value to fresh and “self made” product, making difficult a good perception of new products that are not known.
- Question 18 "What is the preferred taste of the dishes you most?”. There was a translation error, since "sabory" was translated as bitter.
It´s all for the moment. If you have questions, don´t hesitate to ask.
Best regards.
